New here? What the words in the table mean
Decomp
People read the game’s original program and write its source code back, function by function, until it builds the exact same game. It is groundwork: on its own it gives you no new version to play.
Recomp
A tool converts the console’s program into code a PC or a phone runs directly, with no emulator. You bring your own copy of the game.
Source port
The game rebuilt for today’s machines from source code: a decomp, a disassembly, a rewrite, or code its developers released. You bring the game’s files.
Toolchain
The tool or framework a project is built with, such as N64recomp or Rexglue. Projects on the same toolchain often share fixes and know-how.
System and Runs on
System is the console or computer the game comes from. Runs on is where this project’s version plays: Windows, Linux, Android… It is left empty when the project only says “PC port” and names no operating system. Games from consoles still on sale (Switch, Switch 2, PS5, Xbox Series) are not shown.
Status and activity
Status is written by the project’s owner. The dot next to Last commit is automatic: green when someone worked on it in the last 3 months.

Version (newest release or tag) and Last commit are read from the repo once a day. The dot next to the date: green under 3 months, amber from 3 months, grey from 6. Toolchain is filled in only when the repo names its recompiler or toolkit, or by whoever claims the row; its menu lists a tool once three rows from at least two owners name it, the rest is under Other. System is the platform of the original binary the project works from (console, computer or arcade), as its owner states it; Runs on is where this project's build lands, as its owner states it; until they do, the platforms named in the file names of the newest release. Its menu lists a platform the same way as Toolchain, three rows from at least two owners, the rest under Other, and leaves out a decompilation's own console (the cell keeps it). A cell is left empty when nothing says it for sure. Status, notes and the maintainer's name are written by whoever claims the row. On an unclaimed row they stay empty rather than guessed. A game's title opens its page, with every detail of its projects.

Rules

  1. 01 / Public repository

Each row points to a public repository that already exists, so the list only holds projects that have started. The link is checked when the row is added and again every day.

  2. 02 / Inactive projects

A project shows as Quiet after 3 months without a commit and Dormant after 6, whatever its status. This is only a date: a dormant project may still be alive, so ask before you assume nobody is on it. A project its owner marks Complete doesn’t get these labels.

  3. 03 / Recomp, source port and decomp

A recomp uses a tool to turn the original binary into code that runs natively. For a console with a PC-like processor (PS4), it can also mean running the original code on a runtime written for that game. A source port builds the game for current machines from source code people wrote back: a decompilation, a disassembly or a rewrite. A decomp is that source code itself, in C or in assembly, rebuilding the original binary; a disassembly counts as a decomp. Each kind has its own row and its own filter. A repository that does two of them has two rows.

  4. 04 / Anyone can add, the owner decides

Anyone can add a project they found. It shows as unclaimed and holds only what the repository says. Until it is claimed, anyone can correct it. The repository’s owner can claim it with a file in the repository or with the form; after that, only they can change the row, and the scans leave it alone.

  5. 05 / Several projects on one game

When two projects work on the same game, both get a row.

  6. 06 / No ROMs

No game files and no links to them. A row that has one is refused automatically, and removed if one gets through.

  7. 07 / Consoles still on sale

Projects for games from consoles still on sale (Switch, Switch 2, PS5, Xbox Series) are not listed, out of respect for games their makers still sell. An older game that also runs on one of them is listed: what counts is the console the game comes from.

  8. 08 / Flash and Java games

Games made for Flash or for Java phones (J2ME) are not listed. The board covers games from consoles, handhelds and computers.

Add a project

Your project or someone else’s, to add, correct or claim a row: put a file in your repository, or fill in a form. A bot checks the repository and updates the table within a few minutes.

Add or claim a project

What this is

Why it exists

Recomp projects are spread over Discord servers, GitHub and Reddit threads, so it is hard to know whether someone is already working on the game you want to pick. Some games have two or three projects while many others have none. This list puts them in one place.

Where the rows come from

Owners add their own projects with a file or the form. A script also searches GitHub every week; it started partly from older community lists. It copies only what a repository says about itself: game, system, kind of work, commit dates, release tags. It leaves status, notes and names empty, and values that aren’t clear are checked by hand. It still gets some rows wrong. Corrections sent through the form fix them and help improve the script, and an owner who claims their row writes it from then on.

What a row means

Someone has public code for this game. A row doesn’t reserve the game or rate the work. The site has no downloads, no ROMs and no links to either.

Terms of use

Free to use

Read the table, search it, link to it, follow the feed, and let an assistant read it for you. Quoting a few rows with a link back to the board is fine.

Not free to copy

Copying the whole table, or a substantial part of it, into another site, list or dataset needs written permission. Each row states public facts about a public repository and those facts belong to no one; what is protected is the collection and the work of finding and checking it. The site’s code is not licensed for reuse.

Yours stays yours

What a maintainer writes in their own .recomp.json remains theirs. The board only displays it, and stops the day the file is deleted. The file’s format is open: any other list may read it too.
